Ergonomic Mouse, Trackpad or Touch Screen? Today
An entire book could be written about the changes the computer mouse has seen since its inception including function as well as styles. The computer mouse has been around since the 1960s and packaged as part of a computer system since the 80’s. With roller balls, remote sensor technology and wheels, the computer mouse has gone from clunky with just one “do-all” function to very un-computer mouse like in the form of a “finger mouse” where a person places the computer mouse on their index finger like a finger glove and is able to move it around like a virtual mouse. The finger mouse is still connected to the computer with a cord, but at least a table isn’t necessary, say if you had your laptop somewhere that did not have a table for your regular mouse, you would use your finger mouse instead. LED and laser mice also became standard, removing the cord that connected the mouse to the computer, and instead used a remote control sensor to connect signals to the computer screen.
Then, there is the built in keyboard computer mouse called a trackpad. Most laptop users rely on their trackpads as their computer mouse. Depending on the future of touch screens and the sudden sensation of all things “touch”- from iPhones to purchasing movie tickets, gas and groceries, with computer touch screens, the computer mouse could be eliminated completely.
The future of the computer mouse may be dim. With touch technology on the rise, we may be using our fingertips across the screens sooner than we think. It’s not just because people can save desk space, save time by instantly accessing their computer screen without the need for a tool and eliminate more needs for cords, there are endless reasons, people are opting for a trackpad or touchscreen technology.
There Are So Many Other Reasons Touch Technology Is Booming and The Computer Mouse Days are Numbered:
Touchscreens and Trackpads:
Eliminate the computer mouse, which removes a lot of chronic injuries
Reduces paper use, like checks at the grocery counter
Efficient and fast
Eliminate more cords and makes traveling with a computer easier
The speed, efficiency and excitement of touch technology has got people talking. Could the end of the famous computer mouse be near? If it is true, not many of us will be too sad about it.
