Finding the Right Cognitive Therapist

The issue with cognitive therapy is the actual Therapy part. If a person needs cognitive therapy, how can you be certain that the therapist and the program he/she uses is able to adjust faulty thinking and self-defeating behaviors? There are numerous therapists out there each with personal explanations and solutions. Few of them, if any, are fact based with confirmation that what they use is correct and helpful.

Just about any counseling program can state that it's cognitive therapy, yet few, if any, can ascertain that it is successful. One might submit that cognitive therapy is misnamed. The definition of the word "therapy" is the treatment of sickness or disability. The use of cognitive therapy in mental illness is largely unproductive because you cannot use cognitive restructuring instruction on someone who isn't cognitive. The same holds true to children. Cognitive therapy is ineffective on children for an identical reason, because they aren't yet cognitive.

The trouble with using therapists to facilitate cognitive therapy programs is that most therapists are emotionally sick themselves and many are living in self-deception. That is, they dont see that they're sick and therefore they send on their problems (untruths) to their clients. A myriad of people attend psycho therapists sessions for years at a huge cost, still they don't get better and a lot become worse. In spite of all that experienced cognitive life skills counselors with good fact based curriculum can help people in creating permanent changes in a matter of hours instead of days, months and years. This isn't to imply that all therapists are ineffective. The most successful counselors/therapists have a positive way of being. People make changes because of truth, not counseling procedures. The truth resonates at a frequency that has the power to pierce the veil of self-imposed false beliefs and help people defeat years and years of poor programing. Compare cognitive restructuring life skills VS a clinical method of cognitive therapy. Watch for fact based cognitive restructuring programs that have the ability to supply proof that their technique is successful. Find writers and organizations that have tons of experience in creating and assisting groups. There isn't a book out there that can replace genuine hands-on experience.
