Swimming for Fitness: A Beginner`s Guide

Youve heard about the benefits of swimming and now you`re determined to give it a try. If so, the following guide is a great introduction for starters.

During the first week of swimming try to swim for thirty seconds then have a thirty seconds break, and repeat this session for nine times. Once you get used to it, you try and move your feet during the thirty seconds break, then increase the swimming sessions to forty-five seconds.

You may want to start by swimming for two or three times per week, and increase the number of sessions each week. However, don`t exaggerate or you may end up tempted to give up. You need to establish your own swimming pace so you feel comfortable, since you`re not swimming for a competition.

Although you may be looking for fast weight loss, results won`t show up over night. You need to increase the distance you swim by no more than ten percent per week. Check with a trainer when starting swimming for advice about different styles, to decide whats best for you.
