Wallet Mailers for Creative Direct Marketing
The Wallet Mailer is a direct mail piece that closely resembles a man's folding leather wallet. It has room and pockets for imprints and inserts the size of credit cards, business cards, and currency such as might be found in a real leather wallet. A small business could use the wallet mailer in several ways to attract new business. Folded and ready to mail, it is the size of a postcard. One first class stamp will allow the insertion of four currency bill size sheets or one tri-folded 8.5 x 11 sheet plus one bill sized coupon.
It readily lends itself to marketing pitches and direct mail ideas. Anything which involves concepts like saving money and making money seems to fit perfectly. It brings to mind tag lines like "keep more money in your wallet". It is truly interesting for the recipient to open than another number 10 envelope. It might be useful as a hand out item at trade shows, conventions and job fairs.
Direct mail ideas using the wallet-mailer include: sending five or ten business cards to existing, satisfied, customers. They could be encouraged to recommend the small business to their business contacts passing on the spare business cards when they do so. This type of mailing could also include a discount coupon for each new customer referred.
Contests and giveaways are other direct mail ideas. For example, a customer might 'return' a wallet to a salesman for a certain reward, a chance to buy a product at a larger than normal discount. A contest could involve matching a 7-12 digit number that would appear as the driver's license number inside the wallet.
One thing that we can do is we can give a real leather wallet to the first thirty people so that they may return a wallet mailer to the bank that sent it out. In addition, the first ten people who also opened an account can receive a savings bond to go in their leather wallet.
Another option would be to load them up with coupons and offers from several different businesses. The Wallet Mailers could then be dropped in places where real wallets might be lost in order to entice the people who happen to find them to visit one of the sponsoring businesses. Consider a mall with outlying businesses all owned by one property management company: the Mall could drop Wallet Mailers loaded with coupons from the outlying stores in its halls while the outlying stores could drop mailers with coupons from stores in the Mall.
